Oregon placed 84 trees in Gales Creek to boost salmon habitat and water quality.
The Oregon Department of Forestry completed a summer project in the Tillamook State Forest placing 84 trees into Gales Creek and its North Fork to improve fish habitat and water quality.
The effort, targeting endangered Coho Salmon and other native species, created pools and spawning areas across about 1,500 feet of Gales Creek and 1,400 feet of the North Fork.
Trees were sourced from a nearby timber sale to reduce costs, and an excavator aided placement.
The project, costing roughly $20,000 excluding staff time, follows earlier work in 2009 and 2011 and reflects ongoing efforts to balance forest management with ecological and economic benefits.
