North Carolina has launched a five-year plan to make its public schools a national leader by 2030, setting goals to raise the high school graduation rate to 92%, increase ACT scores to 20, expand AP enrollment to 30%, and grow career technical education participation to 41%.
Approved by the State Board of Education in August, the "Achieving Educational Excellence" initiative was shaped by community input and includes a $25 million grant for middle school math, a 10 million book drive, and a new "Portrait of a Graduate" requirement involving college, training, or service.
