A man fled police with an infant and a dangerous dog, was caught, and the baby was safely returned.
Adam Casper, 30, of Mesa County, was arrested on October 20, 2025, after fleeing law enforcement with an infant in a vehicle near Fruita Reservoir Three.
Authorities responding to a disturbance found Casper near a car in Glade Park with a baby inside and an unleashed dog that attacked a U.S. Forest Service ranger.
Casper fled at high speed, nearly hitting a BLM ranger, before being located on foot in a wooded area with the infant.
He was taken into custody and faces charges including child abuse, reckless driving, unlawful ownership of a dangerous dog, obstructing government operations, and driving under restraint.
The baby was safely returned to their mother.
The incident involved a coordinated response by the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Forest Service, and Bureau of Land Management.
The investigation remains ongoing.
