Liam McDermid convicted for searching near a school for a hidden Glock, linked to gang violence, after using a metal detector.
Liam McDermid, 25, has been convicted in Edinburgh for searching for a hidden Glock firearm and ammunition near a school and nursery, part of Operation Portaledge targeting gang violence.
He was arrested on June 5, 2025, after using a metal detector, and the gun was found on June 11 along Roseburn Path, with police closing the area for days.
McDermid admitted to the search, possession of a balaclava and gloves, and using his phone to research metal detector use and discuss retrieving the weapon.
His prior 19 convictions and lack of prison time previously led to a significant custodial sentence.
The case is linked to a wider gang feud involving crime families, with nearly 60 arrests made under the operation.
