Lebanese pop star Fadel Shaker appeared in court on October 22, 2025, after surrendering following 12 years in hiding over terrorism links.
Lebanese pop star Fadel Shaker appeared in a Beirut court on October 22, 2025, for the first time since surrendering after 12 years on the run.
He had been hiding in the Ein el-Hilweh refugee camp since 2013, following violent clashes in Sidon between militants linked to cleric Sheikh Ahmad al-Assir and the Lebanese army.
Shaker, previously sentenced in absentia to 22 years for supporting a terrorist group, avoided those charges under a surrender deal and now faces new military-related offenses.
His court appearance was a preliminary session.
Once a global pop sensation after a 2002 hit, he aligned with al-Assir during the 2013 conflict, appearing in a viral video using inflammatory language against soldiers.
He recently returned to music with a July 2025 song featuring his son that gained over 113 million YouTube views.
