Japanese shipping firms conducted major emergency drills in October 2025 to improve response to ship fires, collisions, and crises.
On October 17, NYK and its ship management arm conducted a crisis drill off Okinawa simulating a fire and collision involving a car carrier, involving Japan’s Maritime Bureau, coast guard, and shipowners’ association.
The exercise tested emergency response, firefighting, rescue operations, and public communication, with remote participation from Singapore and India.
