Green Bay Police Officer Scott Salzmann and his K9 partner Pyro were honored as the 90th District’s First Responders of the Year on October 22, 2025, during a city council meeting.
The recognition, delayed from a prior statewide event, acknowledged their service and heroism, particularly after Pyro survived life-threatening stab wounds in 2019, recovered in under 60 days, and continued active duty.
The duo was credited with preventing an officer-involved shooting.
Pyro, who joined the force in 2018, is set to retire.
State Representative Amaad Rivera-Wagner praised their dedication, highlighting the critical role of both human and animal first responders in community safety.
