A Gloucestershire program helped 1,190 youth build travel skills via nature trips using public transit, funded by trusts and partnerships.
The Access to Nature project in Gloucestershire is helping young people build independent travel skills through a partnership involving the Gloucestershire Community Rail Partnership, Cotswolds National Landscape, and World Jungle.
Funded by the Ernest Cook Trust, Community Rail Development Fund, and Barnwood Trust, the program engaged 1,190 youth from 11 organizations in its first year, combining classroom learning with real-world trips using buses and trains.
Participants gained confidence in journey planning and public transit use, took part in eight nature excursions, and received 2,197 travel resources.
The initiative, which targets youth with limited access to transport or green spaces, uses a youth-led approach and will expand in a second year.
