Ghana’s MP Dr. Kingsley Agyemang has urged African parliaments to pass and enforce laws to tackle health injustice and advance Universal Health Coverage, emphasizing that legislation must ensure equality, accountability, and access.
Speaking at a conference in Addis Ababa, he highlighted the human cost of weak systems, citing a mother who walked six kilometers to find no medical supplies.
He called for binding laws, transparent budgets, stronger oversight, and investment in rural healthcare workers, stressing that health justice must be a legal duty.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s House of Representatives has launched a probe into $4.6 billion in international health grants from the Global Fund and USAID, aiming to assess fund use and ensure progress toward eliminating HIV, TB, and malaria by 2030.
