flag A Ghanaian woman posing as a spiritual messenger was sentenced to five years for stealing $2,700 and electronics from two victims in 2025.

A 45-year-old self-styled prophetess from Asante Abuakwa, Ama Salifu, was sentenced to five years in prison for stealing items and cash worth GH¢27,270. She pleaded guilty to deceiving two victims in April and August 2025 by posing as a spiritual messenger. In one case, she tricked a woman into leaving a bag with an iPhone XR and GH¢1,200, claiming to be her mother. In another, she convinced a 16-year-old girl to bring clothing, accessories, and an iPhone 6s, alleging spiritual deliverance was needed. She fled but was arrested on October 13, 2025, and admitted selling the stolen goods in Kumasi without identifying the buyer. The Asante Akropong Circuit Court, presided over by Judge Gloria Mensah Bonsu, accepted her plea and imposed the sentence.
