Fonterra is investing $75 million to expand butter production at its Clandeboye facility in New Zealand, increasing annual capacity by 50,000 metric tonnes.
The project, set to begin in December 2025 and deliver first output by April 2027, supports the company’s shift toward higher-value ingredients and foodservice products following the proposed $4.22 billion sale of its Mainland Group to Lactalis.
The expansion will produce diverse butter formats, including Halal and Kosher-certified options, and create 16 new jobs.
It is part of a broader $1 billion investment plan over three to four years to boost efficiency and long-term returns for farmer shareholders.
