Eurostar has ordered 30 double-decker high-speed trains from Alstom, with an option for 20 more, under a €2 billion deal.
The fully electric Eurostar Celestia trains, built in France, will begin service in May 2031, operating on the high-speed route from London St Pancras to Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam via the Channel Tunnel.
Designed for European-standard infrastructure, they offer 20% more seats, improved legroom, and dedicated spaces for bikes and wheelchairs, with no extra cost for upper or lower deck seating.
The fleet supports Eurostar’s goal to reach 30 million annual passengers and expand to Frankfurt and Geneva.
A new depot at Temple Mills in east London will be upgraded, with competition expected for access from companies including Virgin Group, FS Italiane, and Gemini Trains.
