EDF has launched FreePhase, a new UK electricity tariff with dynamic pricing—red (peak), amber (off-peak), and green (night)—that adjusts daily based on wholesale energy costs. Customers can save up to £187 a year by shifting usage to cheaper times, including free electricity when prices go negative due to high renewable output. Two versions are offered: Dynamic, with variable rates capped at 75p/kWh, and Static, with fixed rates for a year. Both require a smart meter, direct debit, and no exit fees.
