A 57-year-old Irish man was sentenced to three years in prison for abusing a young girl in the 1990s, after a retrial.
A 57-year-old Wicklow man, Ambrose Doyle, was sentenced to three years in prison in March 2025 for indecently assaulting a young girl in Bray between 1990 and 1992, when she was five to seven years old.
The conviction followed a retrial after an earlier acquittal on similar charges.
Doyle, a married father already serving an 18-month sentence for a 2014 assault on a teenage girl, denied the allegations.
The victim, who reported the abuse in 2019, described lasting trauma, emotional damage, and difficulties in relationships, and said reliving the experience during court was deeply painful, especially when her counseling records were used.
She called Doyle a "monster" behind a public facade of community involvement.
The judge, Patrick Quinn, presided over the case, and Doyle’s health and family circumstances were noted but did not affect the sentence.
