TSMC seeks permit for $49B 1.4nm chip plant in Taiwan, targeting 2028 mass production.
TSMC has applied for a permit to build a new 1.4-nanometer chip plant, A14, in Taiwan’s Central Taiwan Science Park, aiming for 15% higher speed or 30% lower power than its current 2nm tech.
Construction is set to begin by end of 2025, with mass production starting in late 2028.
The $49 billion project, backed by Taichung City’s support and site prep by late October, is expected to generate $15.87 billion in annual output and create 4,500 jobs.
TSMC reaffirmed its commitment to expanding production in Taiwan, including ongoing 2nm development and new wafer fabs and assembly plants.
