Trail closures remain in effect at Spooner Lake State Park’s backcountry through late 2026 due to the Marlette Lake Dam rehabilitation project, aimed at addressing seepage risks that could threaten the dam’s stability.
The 150-year-old earthen dam, critical to water supply for Storey County and Carson City, is being upgraded with federal funding.
Closed trails include the Marlette Flume Trail South and others tied to the East Slope Transmission Main project, while the Tahoe Rim Trail, Capital to Tahoe Trail, Hobart Reservoir, and Ash Canyon Road remain open.
The area remains an active construction site with no public access, and law enforcement is patrolling to enforce restrictions.
Emergency access will be maintained.
