Tennessee proposes legalizing deer baiting in 2026 with a new license and $6.5M revenue goal.
Tennessee is proposing to legalize deer baiting starting in the 2026-2027 season through a new $50 (resident) or $100 (non-resident) Deer Baiting Privilege License, valid only on private or leased land.
The license, not included with existing sportsman licenses, would require landowners to purchase it even on their own property.
Baiting would be restricted within 250 yards of other bait sites, and the license would not allow hunting other game.
The move follows legislative action and pressure from Alabama’s similar law.
The public can comment until November 14, 2025, with rules set to take effect August 1, 2026.
The proposal is expected to generate about $6.5 million in revenue.
Separate agenda items include a proposed OHV permit and updates to the state’s threatened and endangered species list.
