TDK and Gelion launch partnership to develop recyclable sulfur-based batteries for mobility, aviation, and energy storage.
TDK Corporation and UK-based Gelion plc have launched a multi-year collaboration to develop sulfur-based batteries using Gelion’s cathode material, aiming to create large-format pouch cell prototypes.
The partnership, backed by the Max Planck Institute, will test performance across mobility, aviation, and energy storage applications, with TDK prototyping cells in Nagano, Japan, targeting manufacturing qualification within a year.
Gelion will begin lab-scale material production, and the companies expect revenue from CAM supply.
Both emphasize innovation and sustainability, aligning their goals for next-generation, recyclable battery technologies.
