Country singer Brett James and three others died when his plane spiraled down after a failed landing attempt in North Carolina.
A preliminary National Transportation Safety Board report confirms that a Cirrus SR22T piloted by country songwriter Brett James entered a tightening spiral before crashing on September 18, 2025, in Franklin, North Carolina, killing James, his wife Melody Carole, and stepdaughter Meryl Wilson.
James, who had requested a visual approach to Runway 7, was at 6,800 feet and announced a 360-degree turn to land before losing contact with air traffic control.
The controller had instructed him to switch frequencies, but he did not comply.
Radar and video show the plane flew over the runway, descended, turned left, and spiraled down, with witnesses reporting it rocking side to side.
No mechanical issues were found.
The NTSB says the cause remains under investigation.
