Orlando plans to nearly double its red-light cameras to 80 by 2026 to cut crashes and deaths.
The Orlando City Council is set to vote on expanding its red-light camera program by adding 35 new cameras, nearly doubling the current count to 80 by late summer 2026.
The expansion, part of the city’s Vision Zero initiative, aims to reduce traffic violations, crashes, and fatalities at intersections, with new cameras planned along Colonial Drive and in Lake Nona.
Currently, 45 cameras cover about 5% of the city’s 500+ signalized intersections.
Violations carry fines up to $158 without license points, and revenue from over $7.6 million in fines since July 2024 will fund further safety measures.
Data shows a 22% drop in angle crashes at camera-equipped intersections over five years.
The last cameras were installed in 2016.
