Oregon launches a new zoo-themed license plate to support elephant conservation, with a $40 fee.
Starting November 3, 2025, Oregon residents can buy a new specialty license plate featuring the Oregon Zoo, designed by artist Jeremy Nichols to highlight endangered Asian elephants and Portland’s nickname, the Rose City. The $40 surcharge—$35 going to the Oregon Zoo Foundation—supports conservation, animal welfare, and education. Available in person, by mail, or through licensed dealers, the plate cannot be ordered online using pre-paid vouchers, which must be redeemed in person or by mail. It joins other specialty plates like Crater Lake and Salmon.
