Nutrien paused nitrogen production at its Trinidad facility Oct. 23 due to gas supply and port access issues, but expects to meet 2025 sales targets.
Nutrien has paused nitrogen production at its Point Lisas facility in Trinidad and Tobago starting October 23 due to port access restrictions by the National Energy Corp. and unreliable, uneconomical natural gas supplies.
The shutdown affects ammonia and urea output, previously averaging 85,000 and 55,000 tonnes monthly, respectively.
Despite the closure, Nutrien expects to meet its 2025 nitrogen sales target of 10.7 to 11.2 million tonnes, supported by strong North American operations.
The company said the move is temporary and part of ongoing evaluations amid infrastructure and energy challenges in Trinidad.
