A new partnership boosted python removals in the Everglades to 1,022 from May to July 2025, tripling last year’s count.
On October 21, 2025, Governor Ron DeSantis announced that a public-private partnership with Inversa Leathers has tripled Burmese python removals in the Everglades, with 1,022 pythons taken between May and July 2025—more than the total for the same period the previous year.
The program, funded by a $2 million state allocation, has reduced the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s workload by 89% and pays hunters to harvest pythons for their skins, which are turned into luxury goods.
Inversa uses AI to improve detection and aims to boost removals by up to 50 times current levels.
DeSantis emphasized the need for sustained funding and reaffirmed that environmental protections remain intact amid restoration efforts.
