A New Hampshire woman was charged with trying to vote using her dead mother’s identity in the 2024 election.

Grace Gato, 44, of Hudson, New Hampshire, has been charged with a misdemeanor for allegedly attempting to obtain an absentee ballot for her deceased mother, Ruby Ponce, in the 2024 general election. The state alleges she used her mother’s identity to apply for a ballot after her death on October 15, 2024, while also voting in her own name. Investigators confirmed the separate filings and found probable cause, though only one charge of wrongful voting is being pursued. Gato claims she acted on her mother’s wishes to honor her civic engagement and denies any intent to commit fraud. The case remains under investigation.
