Nebraska Lottery sales dropped 16.3% in 2025, cutting $10M in state program funding.
A state audit released October 20, 2025, found Nebraska Lottery sales fell by $36 million, or 16.3%, in the latest fiscal year, reducing funding for four state programs by nearly $10 million.
The decline affected the Nebraska Environmental Trust, State Fair, Compulsive Gamblers Assistance Fund, and education funds including the Nebraska Opportunity Grant Fund.
State Auditor Mike Foley attributed the drop to increased competition from casino gambling and other gaming options, warning that continued declines could undermine the lottery’s original purpose of supporting public education and community programs.
