Michael Wilson’s bid to block media coverage of his rape, bestiality, and child abuse material charges was denied in Melbourne court.
Michael Simon Wilson, 36, failed to secure a suppression order in Melbourne Magistrates Court on October 14, allowing media coverage of his charges including rape, bestiality, and possession of child abuse material.
His lawyer sought the order to prevent public association with Joshua Brown, a former childcare worker accused of over 70 offences involving eight children, arguing media attention could prejudice Wilson’s fair trial.
Prosecutors countered that evidence, including digital communications about child abuse material, linked Wilson to Brown and helped trigger the investigation.
Magistrate Donna Bakos rejected the request, stating the public nature of Brown’s case alone did not justify suppressing information about Wilson.
Wilson’s next court date is November 14, while Brown’s case is set for February.
