Melbourne mayor charged with assault after masked guests stormed 2024 election party; denies charge, court date March.
Yarra City Council Mayor Stephen Jolly has been charged with assault over an incident at a November 2024 election after-party in Melbourne, where masked individuals allegedly gatecrashed the event.
Jolly, 63, denies the charge, calling it "nonsense" and claiming the group targeted him before, including at past public events.
He says he reported the incident and a separate alleged attack in 2023.
Jolly plans to plead not guilty and will continue serving as mayor.
The case, which carries a maximum penalty of three months in jail, is set for hearing in March at Melbourne Magistrates' Court.
