A man walking at night was killed by a car on Hawaii Island; police investigate negligent homicide.
A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 19 near the 47-mile marker in Honoka’a around 7:30 p.m. on October 20, 2025. Police launched a negligent homicide investigation after a 53-year-old woman driving a Toyota 4Runner swerved and hit the man, who was walking in dark clothing and not in a marked crosswalk. Emergency personnel performed life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at 7:51 p.m. The driver was uninjured, and authorities found no evidence of speed, alcohol, or drugs. An autopsy is pending. The incident is the 18th traffic fatality on Hawaii Island in 2025, a decrease from 24 at the same time last year. The victim’s identity has not been released.
