The collision occurred just after 6:45 a.m. near the intersection of PCH and Newland Street, where a gold 2006 Mercedes E-Class struck three cyclists in a bike lane.
The driver fled the scene, traveling about half a mile before stopping.
One cyclist died at the scene; the other two were hospitalized with serious injuries.
Calderon faces multiple felony charges, including gross vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run, and possession of narcotics.
