Israel confirms recovery of IDF sergeant killed in Oct. 7 attack, part of U.S.-brokered deal.

Israeli authorities have identified the remains of Sergeant Major Tal Haimi, a 41-year-old IDF reservist and kibbutz emergency commander, who was killed during the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack on Nir Yitzhak. His body was recovered by the Red Cross in Gaza and transferred to Israel on October 20, 2025, under a U.S.-proposed ceasefire deal. Haimi is the 13th deceased hostage confirmed under the agreement, with 15 more expected. U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with Israeli military leaders in Tel Aviv to advance ceasefire implementation amid ongoing regional tensions.
