Irish driver sentenced to 6 months for hitting musician, causing lifelong injuries.
A 27-year-old Irish driver, Mihail Trofim, was sentenced to six months in prison for careless driving causing serious harm after hitting a musician crossing the road in Blanchardstown in June 2022.
The victim, struck at 83–88 km/h in a 60 km/h zone, suffered life-altering injuries including a brain injury, broken bones, and permanent disabilities such as memory loss, double vision, and paralysis, ending his ability to play music or paint.
Trofim, who failed to appear for sentencing in April and was later arrested in September, was criticized by the judge for evading court, adding to the victim’s trauma.
Despite no prior record and cooperation with police, the judge imposed a six-month sentence and a five-year driving ban, citing the lasting impact on the victim and family.
