The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) faces a legal challenge over its participation in Pride events and membership in Stonewall’s Diversity Champions programme, with former officer Harry Miller and group Fair Cop arguing it undermines impartiality.

This follows a High Court ruling that Northumbria Police violated neutrality by joining Pride.
In response, LGBT+ group Out-Out Groups in Rugby strongly criticized the challenge, stating Pride is a response to ongoing discrimination, not politics, and that public institutions like the IOPC have a duty to support marginalized communities.
They rejected comparisons between sexual orientation and religion, emphasizing that LGBT+ identity is protected under the Equality Act 2010 as an immutable characteristic.
The IOPC has acknowledged the judicial review and will respond within legal timeframes.
