A hostage situation at Missouri’s South Central Correctional Center in Licking ended peacefully Monday afternoon after a five-hour standoff.
An inmate took a clerical staff member hostage in a housing unit office around 8:30 a.m.
The hostage was released unharmed at 1 p.m. and received trauma support.
At 1:15 p.m., the inmate exited the office and was taken into custody by Missouri State Highway Patrol SWAT and the Corrections Emergency Response Team.
No injuries were reported.
Law enforcement agencies including the Licking Police Department, Texas County Sheriff’s Department, and a local Special Response Team responded.
The Missouri Department of Corrections praised the coordinated, professional response.
