India’s former Naxal-affected regions are transforming into growth zones as violence drops and development expands.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced on October 21, 2025, that India’s former “Red Corridors”—regions once affected by left-wing extremism—are now emerging as growth corridors due to sustained security and development efforts.
He noted a sharp decline in Naxalite-affected districts, from 182 in 2014 to just 11 by October 2025, with the Ministry of Home Affairs projecting full eradication by March 31, 2026.
Singh credited coordinated operations by police, CRPF, BSF, and local authorities for the transformation, highlighting new schools, hospitals, roads, and colleges in former conflict zones.
He emphasized that many former insurgents are surrendering and embracing development, marking a significant shift from violence to progress.
