Ecogas starts construction on a waste-to-energy plant in Hornby, New Zealand, set to open in 2027.
Ecogas has begun construction on a new waste-to-energy facility in Hornby, Christchurch, set to open in early 2027.
The plant will process up to 100,000 tonnes of organic waste annually from households, businesses, and industries, converting it into renewable energy, biofertiliser, and biomass fuel to support local agriculture and reduce emissions.
The project builds on the success of Ecogas’s Reporoa facility and follows its recognition as AD Hero of the Year at the 2025 AD and Biogas Industry Awards, reflecting New Zealand’s growing focus on sustainable waste management and circular economy practices.
