Cillian Welsh won a €25,000 scholarship to study engineering at Trinity College Dublin.
On October 20, 2025, Cillian Welsh, a student from County Louth, was awarded a €25,000 Naughton Foundation Scholarship to study engineering at Trinity College Dublin.
The scholarship, part of a national program established in 2008, supports top Irish students in STEM fields, with each award covering €6,000 annually for three or four years.
The ceremony at Trinity Business School was attended by Dr. Martin Naughton, Carmel Naughton, and Minister Jack Chambers.
The foundation has awarded over €8 million to more than 450 students nationwide since its founding, expanding from three counties to a full national initiative by 2016.
Each participating county receives at least one scholarship, and recipients’ former schools receive €1,000 to improve science facilities.
Applications for 2026 scholarships open March 2, 2026.
