Chulalongkorn University replaces toxic formalin with ZF, a safer, patented preservation solution for anatomy teaching.
Chulalongkorn University’s veterinary faculty has introduced Zero Formalin (ZF), a formalin-free preservation solution for anatomy teaching, replacing toxic formalin that caused respiratory issues and spread odors.
Developed since 2024, ZF—made of alcohol, disinfectants, moisturizers, and deodorizers—effectively preserves whole animals and organs like lungs and intestines, maintaining structure and color.
Injected into arteries, the process is being automated with a prototype pump.
The solution is now patented and owned by the university, marking a safer, more sustainable advancement in anatomy education.
