Cape Fear Valley Health has donated $2 million to Fayetteville State University, creating the Cape Fear Valley School of Nursing and expanding efforts to address North Carolina’s nursing shortage.
The gift supports rising enrollment—from 844 to 984 students since 2023—and has helped train 500 healthcare workers, including 340 registered nurses, since 2022.
The donation builds on a prior $900,000 gift that funded a 24,631-square-foot Health and Wellness Center.
The program, now ranked 249th nationally and named the top HBCU nursing program in 2025 by Nurse.org, aims to double annual nursing graduates to 300.
