Bulgaria may allow Putin’s flight to Budapest for a Trump meeting, pending Moscow’s request.
Bulgaria is prepared to grant Russia a flight corridor through its airspace for President Vladimir Putin’s trip to Budapest for a meeting with Donald Trump, according to Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev.
The move, aimed at shortening Putin’s flight and facilitating high-level diplomacy, has not yet been formally requested by Moscow.
The proposed meeting, which would be the first in-person summit between Trump and Putin since 2018, has drawn criticism from EU officials and Eastern European nations for excluding Ukraine, though some Western European countries have expressed cautious support.
Bulgaria and Hungary are both ICC members, though Hungary plans to withdraw in June 2026 despite the ICC’s arrest warrant for Putin over alleged war crimes.
