British anglers caught a 258-pound Wels catfish in Spain, setting a new river record.
British anglers from Carlisle, including Josh Garrity, caught a 258-pound European Wels catfish in Spain’s Segre river on October 16, 2025, setting a new record for the river system.
The 9.8-foot-long fish, reeled in after a 30-minute struggle with help from four friends and a mat slide, surpassed the previous 257-pound record.
The group, on a five-day trip with Monster Catfishing Tours, called it a "catch of a lifetime."
The catch is near the world record for the species.
