Blenheim Palace's 1710 clock tower restored after seven weeks, preserving its 18th-century craftsmanship.
The 18th-century clock tower at Blenheim Palace has been fully restored, returning the structure to working order after a seven-week project.
The tower houses a rare 1710 clock by renowned maker Langley Bradley, considered his finest surviving work.
Specialists from multiple companies restored the clock’s Capri blue faces, 23.5-carat gold details, and regilded its hands, numerals, and decorative sphere using over 1,000 sheets of gold leaf.
Despite difficult weather, the team preserved the original design, linked to Bradley’s St Paul’s Cathedral clock.
The project, led by Chris Monaghan and Blenheim Palace’s Carmen Alvarez, ensures the clock will function and remain a lasting symbol of 18th-century craftsmanship.
