Australia introduces new law limiting same-day alcohol deliveries to reduce harm and violence.
The ACT has introduced the Liquor Amendment Bill 2025, the first comprehensive law in Australia regulating same-day alcohol deliveries, aiming to reduce alcohol-related harm and violence.
The bill restricts deliveries to 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., requires a two-hour delay between order and delivery, limits order quantities, mandates RSA training for delivery staff, and includes safeguards like age verification and bans on deliveries to minors or intoxicated individuals.
It also protects delivery workers from liability when refusing unsafe deliveries.
The legislation, backed by public health experts and advocacy groups, follows a federal review linking alcohol laws to gender-based violence and aims to align online sales with in-person safety standards.
Some provisions will take effect 18 months after passage to allow businesses time to adapt.
