A 19-year-old Sudanese asylum seeker, Deng Chol Majek, denies murdering 27-year-old hotel worker Rhiannon Skye Whyte, who died from a brain stem injury after being stabbed 19 times with a screwdriver at Bescot Stadium railway station on October 20, 2024.
Police responded at 11:33 p.m., found her unconscious on the platform, and she died three days later.
Majek was arrested the next day at the Park Inn hotel, where officers recovered a hooded jacket, silver jewellery, and sandals.
During a 90-minute police interview, he remained silent despite being cautioned.
He admits being on hotel CCTV between 7:45 p.m. and 11 p.m. but denies being the person seen on the platform, attacking Whyte, or throwing her phone into the River Tame.
He also denies murder and possessing a screwdriver as a weapon.
