UK firm takes over Australia’s largest sheep station, Rawlinna, after lengthy approval process.
The UK-owned Consolidated Pastoral Company has officially taken control of Rawlinna, Australia’s largest sheep station in Western Australia’s Nullarbor region, ending a seven-month sale process that required approval from Australia’s Foreign Investment Review Board and the WA government after 200 days of due diligence.
The station, originally founded by the MacLachlan family in the 1960s and previously managed by Jumbuck Pastoral, is now under CPC, majority-owned by UK investor Guy Hands, which plans to expand its Merino flock from 30,000 to 60,000 within two years.
All current employees have been offered continued roles.
The sale followed the withdrawal of mining tycoon Twiggy Forrest due to delays.
Meanwhile, another Jumbuck-owned station, Madura Plains, is now on the market.
