The trial of former DUP leader Sir Jeffrey Donaldson and his wife, delayed due to her health, will likely resume in 2026.
The trial of former DUP leader Sir Jeffrey Donaldson and his wife, Lady Eleanor Donaldson, has been delayed again, with Judge Paul Ramsey stating it will likely proceed in 2026.
The November 3 date was vacated due to ongoing medical assessments concerning Eleanor’s health, with specialist reports still pending.
The prosecution noted these reports could impact her fitness to stand trial, making a new date impossible to set at this time.
Jeffrey Donaldson, 62, faces 18 charges including rape, indecent assault, and gross indecency from 1985 to 2008 involving two victims, which he denies.
His wife, 59, denies aiding and abetting.
Both defendants did not attend the hearing.
The case, which began after Donaldson’s arrest in March 2024 and his subsequent resignation and suspension from the DUP, remains on hold until medical evaluations are complete.
