Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra praised the Hume Centre for Ecology and Wildlife Biology in Wayanad, Kerala, for its community-driven climate research and disaster resilience efforts.
During a visit, she highlighted the center’s integration of local knowledge with scientific monitoring to improve landslide and weather predictions.
Founded in 2005, the center, led by C.K.
Vishnudas and Suma Das, engages tribal communities, farmers, and villagers in biodiversity studies, youth education, and disaster preparedness.
Its model, supported by grants including from the Rainmatter Foundation, has strengthened climate adaptation in a vulnerable hill region and drawn national attention.
The center is preparing for the November 2025 Wayanad Bird Festival.
