Police in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, seized 119,675 bottles of banned cough syrup containing codeine, valued at ₹3.5 crore, from two trucks on October 18, 2025, near Churk on the Varanasi-Shaktinagar highway.
The syrup, hidden among snack cartons, was being transported from Ghaziabad to Jharkhand.
Three men from Madhya Pradesh—Hemant Pal, Brajmohan Shivhare, and Ramgopal Dhakad—were arrested and confessed to smuggling the drugs, awaiting delivery instructions from a contact in Jharkhand.
The case, registered under the NDPS Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, is under investigation, with vehicles seized for lacking documentation.
