Pakistan demolishes 1,200+ homes in Karachi camp, displacing Afghans under nationwide eviction order.
Pakistani authorities have demolished over 1,200 homes and structures in Karachi’s Sohrab Goth Afghan refugee camp as part of a government-led crackdown on illegal land occupations.
The operation, ongoing since October 15, targets undocumented Afghan migrants and aims to reclaim encroached land, with most of the camp’s residents—around 14,000—already having left.
About 1,384 Afghans remain and are being repatriated in phases.
The effort, backed by federal policy, has faced minimal resistance after initial clashes and is part of broader actions across Pakistan requiring Afghan nationals to vacate homes and businesses, including in Quetta.
The government cites public order and legal compliance as reasons for the move.
