Over 650 residents demand action after 10 trees were destroyed on Bridle Path, prompting council policy changes and new protections.
Over 650 Port Stephens residents have signed a petition demanding stronger action after 10 large trees were destroyed on the Bridle Path in January, with officials and advocates calling the damage deliberate and possibly organized.
In response, the Port Stephens Council has revised its Tree and Vegetation Vandalism Policy, developed with environmental experts, and plans to exhibit the updated version on October 28.
The council has already implemented measures including tree regeneration, replanting Cook Pines, installing CCTV cameras, and placing warning signs to deter future vandalism.
