Over 1,600 BYD vehicles stored illegally at a NSW park since August, with approval pending for legal use.
Over 1,600 new BYD vehicles, including the Shark 6 ute and Sealion 7 SUV, have been stored at Jamberoo Action Park in New South Wales since August, raising concerns over alleged illegal storage.
The vehicles, arriving from Port Kembla, remain parked on the park’s grounds during its winter closure, prompting Kiama Municipal Council to issue compliance notices, as the use is not permitted under current zoning.
A development application has been submitted to legally reclassify the site for vehicle storage and passenger transport, but approval is pending.
BYD Australia confirmed it took over import and distribution in July 2025, managing storage via a logistics partner near Port Kembla and partnering with Eagers Automotive Limited.
The company became the first Chinese brand to rank in Australia’s top five for sales in June 2025, with plans to launch new models and its Denza premium brand later in the year.
